COMMENT
My choice was to make these conversations between talking heads or as part of an action scene. Talking heads are efficient... and consistent with my skill level. But I do like the tradition of Krazy Kat, Pogo, and Calvin and Hobbes, where the characters have their deepest conversations while walking, fishing, or zooming along in some crazy vehicle together. So I pushed myself to do a walk-and-talk.
My starry skies are from Hubbell telescope images. I thought it would be easy/fun, but it wound up being an endless amount of fussing. Panel 3 is a "traced" image of stars. The Panel 4 nebula is a bitmap linked to a Photoshop file.
I like the dark background but it was a challenge to make sure the characters stood out.
I learned that I could use the pencil tool on top of a selected pen to rough it up (see panel borders) or add detail (see the roadside grass, etc. in panel 2). The panel borders were further enhanced applying an edited 1 mm. pointed bristle brush... my first time playing with those.
