For our last full day in Nova Scotia, we decided to explore the east side of Cape Breton, specifically the French fortress of Louisbourg. It was kind of a dud. It was supposed to be an intense 1744 experience (re-enactors, etc), but the place was huge and the sun was brutal. So we sat on a bench and ate our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, looked at the Atlantic Ocean, then hightailed it out of there.
We meandered along the coast. Beautiful North Atlantic views. Got twisted around in the once-industrial city of Sydney — always annoying — but then found our way back to the highway “home” to Baddeck.
We’re starting to look at maps strategizing our way out of here tomorrow. Car is gassed up. Beginning to look Rochesterward.
