I live to make trouble for myself. And I need so little encouragement to jump into the spider’s web.
I need to reformat my novel (groan) to upload to Lightning Source, now that my account is (finally!) approved (more bookstores, yay!). But instead, I decided to quickly put up a wiki on the subject of Castlewood. Okay, you can find the Historic Castlewood Wiki here>>> (The “general memories” link has the most info so far.)
On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being butt-ugly and 10 being awesome), the wiki is a 2. Wikis are supposed to be plain-vanilla places, where anyone can jump in an add their two cents, or in this case their memories of the glorious and infamous Castlewood of our childhoods.
Learning curves are frustrating, but I know this project is worthwhile. I don’t think there is anyone else on the web gathering up history of Castlewood. And yet… what a place. Dramatic geology: cliffs, wild river, and mineral springs. Partying history: bootleggers, gambling, private clubs. Childhood delights: icy public swimming pool, fireworks, crawdads in the creek, acres of unsupervised woods.
I have a mailing list of about 20 people who have written to me with questions and memories over the last couple years, based on what I have in my website. I’m hoping we can all collaborate so that the history isn’t lost.
