:Vocalo is the station where I get most of my audio work played, so I’m interested in how this public radio experiment in diversity is working. This article is from “Current,” a newsletter about the public radio and TV industry: Vocalo’s test ahead: Will it be in with the out crowd?
It’s definitely not in with the Chicago in-crowd, as occasionally seen in fuming conversations at the Chicago Reader.
As far as I’m concerned 99% of everything of the radio these days sucks. Same old oldies music, right-wing table-pounders, all-Jesus-all-the-time, and sports talk. I like public radio, but the humor is often a little too whimsical and (unless they are a classical music station) the only music they know is jazz. It is totally predictable. As old business models are crumbling before our eyes, it’s great to see a group going out on the limb to try something new.
