Where Have I Been? What Have I Done? What Next?

Jul. 22-28, 2012. It was a busy week,a little of everything. Rain has finally given relief to our drought, for the moment. Looking forward to Jim's grandson Mark coming tomorrow to stay a few days with us.

Engaging and Sharing (Creative and Curatorial Products)

Creative: storytelling. Poking away at notes on "Rocktropolis." Decided to make the entire cast female, though haven't decided WHY yet.

Cataloging. I got through my two boxes of Latin American beads and started in on the last boxes in the collection -- mostly fun vintage necklaces.

Exploration and Capacity-Building

I studied the TV-cable-DVD connections, to avoid being driven crazy by pushing the wrong buttons on the wrong remotes and expecting something that won't happen.

Working on my beads, esp. those with Catholic connotations, got me thinking about rosaries, prayer beads, worry beads -- the beads that are not so much "jewelry" as comfort and devotion. It seems like every culture has their own version. That got me thinking about stringing my own prayer beads from all the miscellaneous old beads I have accumulated. That prompted a visit to the Let's Bead! shop... more on that later...

Infrastructure and workflow

New chair for the "Queen Mum" to keep my bod off the couch and the crick out of my neck. I am working on having "workstations" for various projects and activities. Second floor studio temporarily devoted to collection photography, so I can leave that set up and work in the kitchen, the ground floor "meditation" room" or (now) oout of my Queen Mum recliner.

Deep Energizing

"God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater" by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., 1965 (Audible). Finished! Great book. About a rich guy crazy enough to want to give his money away to poor people -- something Mitt Romney should have read in college.

ART AND FEAR: OBSERVATIONS ON THE PERILS (AND REWARDS) OF ARTMAKING by David Bayles and Ted Orland (Kindle Edition) -- for inspiration and encouragement.
