I was thinking about this today. Here we are on the eve of the Obama "era" -- optimistic and enthusiastic. We are savoring all the bits of information, from his beautiful daughters to his all-Star cabinet. He is the One.
And then reality bites. All of our corporate-economic houses of cards are collapsing. Maybe that should happen. But shit. It could get ugly out there. Courage in the face of Depression and disaster was, like, for my grandparents.
But then I wonder... What threshold are we stepping over? Can we step up to the plate? Can we be as resourceful and inventive as our grandparents and parents when the going gets tough? AM I A COMPLETE WEENIE??? Gosh, yes.
Movies, novels and biographies make living against the backdrop of grand historical events sound glamorous. But I'm a little anxious...
