Yes, I watched Nancy Pelosi being sworn in. I'm not up for every Historical Moment, but this one was cool.
Nancy is a surprise. Suddenly, we have a woman in the third highest office of the nation — Speaker of the House, two heartbeats away from the presidency.
Pelosi proves that, like men, women can have it all — even those who begin their careers on the mommy track.
And she looks fabulous! Thank God a woman doesn't have to look like Denny Hastert in drag to be taken seriously now. I hear she lives on chocolate and 4 hours sleep and that she's had "some work done." All I can say to that is You Go, Girl!
The young women who've grown up on Brittany Spears, Barbie, and Bratz dolls need to know that women in public service don't have to look like Margaret Thatcher or Golda Meir. I'm glad Condi wears dominatrix boots and that Hilary has finally figured out what to do with her hair.
I'm not saying that Madeleine Albright isn't cute. I do firmly believe that beauty comes from within. And "beauty is as beauty does." A mature woman knows that growing into wrinkles and roundness is the price of good health.
But, again, young women need to know that public service can be glamorous too.
