Drawing: Plugging Away
Reading: "The Undressed Art: Why We Draw" by Peter Steinhart
Challenge: Draw from life/photos; draw stories without words.
I'm not that interested in sketching good representations. Attitude about that: "hand me the camera." But I'm getting into the energy of drawing — how it engages my mind and what happens on the paper that I hadn't planned.
Practice. I tore pages from magazines. Bland faces, interesting positions. Sketched the woman, then sketched the unrelated man sitting on the same bench. Fiddled with their eyes. Hmm... They began to interact.
..
There is distance between them (she's dressy; he's informal). He is withdrawn (eyes, mouth). She is intrigued (eyes, the shoe) but self-protective (arm across her body). Several different stories come to mind. She is... a stranger? his boss? his therapist?
