DISPATCHED FROM THE CROSSROADS, AT THE intersection OF war & peace

What Democrats Stand For

It's a Republican tactic to say that Democrats don't stand for anything. It's to our shame that we can't respond with the appropriate smack-down.

What do Democrats stand for? How about PEACE and PROSPERITY? Throw in COMPETENCE.

When Bill Clinton was President, that seemed to be enough.

When did PEACE become whimpy?

Under Bush, Republicans now stand for RAMPAGE — out of control wars, wild spending, ham-handed diplomacy, jaw-dropping corruption and general incompetence. Why is their only tactic fear? Why are we supposed to be afraid of Nancy Pelosi? And why don't they know the difference between a tactic and a strategy?

I have a distant memory of a Democratic theme song from — when? — the 1950s? — "Happy Days Are Here Again." What's wrong with that?

These are my own conclusions, but I tend to get by left-wing talking points from the following: Huffington Post (my home page, where I usually catch up with the latest bon mots from Keith Olbermann and Jon Stewart), Salon, and from progressive talk radio (Young Turks, Al Franken, Stephanie Miller, The Lionel Show, and [in small doses] Randi Rhodes).
